Miami
Presentation
The name "Miami" comes from an Native American word that means "fresh water."
The population of the city of Miami was 463,347[2] in 2017, making it Florida's second largest commune after Jacksonville and the 44th city in the United States. Its inhabitants are called the Miamians[5]. A city of leisure and entertainment, it is a world-renowned seaside resort that is part of a rosary of resorts stretching from Key West. Miami is the first urban centre in a vast agglomeration of 6,158,824 inhabitants (2017), the seventh in the United States (after Washington, D.C., and in front of Philadelphia). Its tourist port is the first cruise ship port, with a third of the world's fleet.
Miami is an international city at the southeast tip of Florida. Its Cuban influence is reflected in the cafes and cigar shops along Calle Ocho de Little Havana. On the barrier islands on the other side of the turquoise waters of Biscayne Bay is Miami Beach, which is home to South Beach. This prestigious neighbourhood is famous for its very colourful art deco buildings, white sand beaches, seaside hotels and fashionable nightclubs.
